My second time to Antarctica, and probably the last time for many years to come. I ran long on this podcast, but had a lot of things to talk about. Hopefully I can keep these photos in a similar order to how I mentioned them during the podcast.<\/p>\n

In Antarctica, penguins have the right of way (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nNight in Antarctica, or as close to it as you get two days after the longest day of the year, just a few degrees above the Antarctic Circle (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nWhale skull at an old whaling station. In the background is a Leopard Seal (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nMore whale bones and a research ship (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nBertha’s Breasts at the entrance to the Lemare Channel.(2007).\n<\/p>\n\nMe and Pola on Christmas Eve 2007.\n<\/p>\n\nHalf Moon Island. The wind picked up and due to safety concerns we had to leave early and rejoin the ship (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nElephant Island.\n<\/p>\n\nThe bay on Elephant Island where Shackleton and crew landed.\n<\/p>\n\nThere are many impressive icebergs in the water around Antarctica. Here’s one.\n<\/p>\n\nPenguins on the iceberg.\n<\/p>\n\nThe Arctowski Polish Antarctic Research Base, Admiralty Bay.\n<\/p>\n\nSnowy Petrel, the bird with the southernmost breeding area.\n<\/p>\n\nAnother awesome iceberg, this one with an arch.\n<\/p>\n\nThe mountains have no trees or any other feature to judge their size. Here you can see a boat below the mountain, and suddenly the size becomes apparent. It’s possible to see similar height mountains all over the world, but not with that much snow, and not that much snow right down to sea level. Maybe in Greenland, but I’ve never visited Greenland.\n<\/p>\n\nThe same boat with a glacier behind.\n<\/p>\n\nThis is a feed from a camera on the bridge. The wind was pretty strong!\n<\/p>\n\nMountains and people.\n<\/p>\n\nMe in the jacuzzi.\n<\/p>\n\nThe swimming pool was far, far colder.\n<\/p>\n\nJumping into the pool. Chilly!\n<\/p>\n\nSunset in Antarctica.\n<\/p>\n\nA rock formation at the entrance to Deception Island (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nA sailing boat in Deception Island, which must be one of the largest (almost) completely enclosed natural harbors in the world (2007).\n<\/p>\n\nThe very visible geology in Antarctica due to complete lack of soil and vegetation. Just imagine if we got rid of all the ice, and how many new fossils we could find!
