Tropical Islands 2015 Fight Night

At the Tropical Islands Invasion 2015, Jochen (DJ) Hänsel made it to his first ever Fight Night final at his first ever 250 point tournament.

Luke Burrage, the defending champion, made it to his fifth final in a row, and was looking to keep alive an 11 match/900 point winning streak.

Here’s a fun video:

See all the results and details here on the Tropical Islands 2015 Fight Night page.

With this result, DJ climbed up to 17th place in the current rankings. Luke remains at number 3. Karsten Schölzel defeated Enrico Lohmann in the third place match.

Also congratulations to Maarten Willy Wils for qualifying for the knockout of a Fight Night for the first time after nine unsuccessful qualifications at tournaments in 2014.

Top 40 Jugglers of 2014

Part 1 – The Sounds: In which the juggling community tried to guess the jugglers and the videos that provided the samples I used in the soundtrack.

Part 2 – Sounds and Pictures: The final video that I uploaded once everyone had guessed all the details.

And I’m back into the top 10! Yay me.

Chocfest 2015 Fight Night

Congratulations to Johnny Malcolm for winning the Chocfest 2015 Fight Night. This is his second win in a row, a followup to his victory at the Cambridge 2014 Fight Night.

Johnny beat Dan Wood in the final, the winner of the Durham 2014 Fight Night. Johnny also went unbeaten qualifications at Chocfest 2015.

This win means Johnny enters the top 10 in the current rankings for this first, and extends his winning streak to 6 tournament matches. How do you think he’ll do at the British Juggling Convention 2015?

14 jugglers took part in the Chocfest 2015 event, a 250 level tournament, with 8 in the knockout. Josh Turner came third and Jon Peat came fourth. Thanks to Jon for organizing the tournament.

Galileo TV Show Feature on Combat in Berlin

Last year a camera crew came to Berlin to shoot a feature on combat, focusing on the rivalry between Eóin Allan and Jochen Pfeiffer. It’s actually really good! Even if you don’t understand German, it’s still worth a watch.

If you’re currently in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, you can watch it on the Galileo website.

If you’re not in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, you can find a low quality version on Facebook.

My only complaint is that, inevitably, the presenter says it’s “from the USA”. Not only is Fight Night Combat (and team combat) not from the USA, and there has never been a Fight Night in the USA, but for many years it was mainly played, and won, by the very people shown in the video, in Berlin!
